Tiny British Isle Gets Diesel Generator Set 08/24/2004 Ironically for a community that has pioneered renewable energy – until the wind proved too much for its wind turbine – it has been left dependent on one 25kw diesel generator, providing rationed power from 7.30am to midnight. Now thanks to a lottery fund grant of just under £200,000, for the first time the Foula Electricity Trust will soon be able to provide a reliable and affordable electricity scheme across the island, 20 miles west of Shetland.
